The 2023-2024 English Premier League campaign gets underway Friday as we have a clash between Treble-winning Manchester City and newly promoted Burnley, who cruised to a Championship title last season by 10 points.
One of my main focuses for the 2023-2024 season will be following the Both Teams To Score (BTTS) prop. I’m already locked in for a goal-fest in the aforementioned opener and I have another pair of matches that I’m narrowing in on. Let’s dive into the picks and analysis!

Manchester City at Burnley
The champions vs. champions opener is slated for 3:00 p.m. ET from Turf Moor in Burnley. As a matter of fact, that’s one of the key reasons that I like this BTTS prop to hit as a slight underdog. The Burnley faithful are going to have this building rocking in support of their side. The Clarets were an impressive 16-6-1 on their home pitch in the Championship last year.
Burnley cruised to the title, posting 101 points with a 10-point cushion over runner-up Sheffield United. It was truly a dominant campaign as they led the second tier of English soccer in both goals scored (87) and goals against (35). With Vincent Kompany at the helm, I think he’ll have a solid plan in place that sees Burnley net at least one tally against the reigning PL champs.
As for Man City, I think it’s basically a given that they score at least one goal. The Citizens notched 94 goals over 38 matches last year and will be returning leading scorer Erling Haaland. The 23-year-old Norwegian netted 36 goals last campaign and I have a feeling he’s not hanging his hat on that performance. Let’s take a shot with the plus-money payout for BTTS.

Aston Villa at Newcastle
The nightcap for Saturday’s six-match slate features a thrilling showdown between Newcastle United and Aston Villa. This season opener is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. ET from St. James’ Park in Newcastle.
It was just a few weeks ago (July 23rd) when Aston Villa and Newcastle squared off in a friendly at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, PA. That exhibition match ended in a 3-3 draw. While we’ll certainly see some new faces in the starting 11, I don’t think the goals will completely drop off. I’m riding with the BTTS prop in this one.
Both clubs found a ton of success last campaign with Newcastle punching its ticket to the Champions League (4th) while Aston Villa also secured a spot on the European front with a seventh-place result. The Magpies found the back of the net 68 times last year (6th) while the Villans were 10th, with 51 goals.
Bet: Both Teams To Score (-140)
Tottenham at Brentford
The Sunday morning action gets started with a tilt between Brentford and Tottenham. This one kicks off at 9:00 a.m. ET from Gtech Community Stadium in Brentford.
Last year’s matchday 37 featured at least one surprising result as Brentford smoked Tottenham 3-1 in London. Harry Kane got the action started with an early goal (8’) while the Bees stormed back with a trio of second-half tallies. Kane will return to the Hotspur lineup and he’s coming off of a season where he scored 30 goals. That mark trailed only the above-mentioned Haaland in PL scoring.
Tottenham loves the run-and-gun strategy and that often leads to issues on the backend. That was exemplified by the fact that they surrendered 63 goals last year, which was the sixth-most in the top flight of English soccer. It was the most amongst teams that finished inside of the top 14 teams in the table. They didn’t do much to fortify the midfield and defense, which should offer plenty of opportunities for Brentford to net at least one goal. I don’t mind laying the juice with this BTTS play.
