Wednesday’s WNBA Best Bets

(Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)

Seattle Storm (-9.5) at Los Angeles Sparks €“ 164.5 O/U (-110/-110)

Our first WNBA pick today brings us to a West Coast tilt between the Seattle Storm and Los Angeles Sparks. On paper, this is a lopsided matchup. The Sparks are the worst team in the league while the Storm are a top-five squad. Let’s break down how to bet on Wednesday night’s late-night tipoff.

Los Angeles’ forgettable season keeps getting worse. The Sparks have lost 11 of their last 12 games and are now 3-21 over the past 24 contests. Their -7.8 point differential and -9.2 net rating are both last in the WNBA, as is the league-worst 7-28 record this year. Since the Olympics break, LA is also last in defensive rating and second-to-last in offensive rating.

Seattle, on the other hand, is firmly entrenched as a playoff squad as a top 5-6 team in the league. The Storm have been up and down over the past month but they’ve gotten back on track lately with an upset over Connecticut, a tight loss at New York, and a blowout win over Phoenix in the past three games.

The arrow is pointing up for Seattle with the WNBA playoffs right around the corner. Tonight, we have a few key reasons to back the road favorites against the spread.

First off, the Storm have a significant rest advantage coming into tonight. They’ve been off since Saturday, which was an easy beatdown of Phoenix. Meanwhile, this is the second leg of a back-to-back and the third game in four days for Los Angeles.

This is also a notable step down in competition compared to what Seattle has dealt with recently. Their past five games were all against playoff-bound teams, including four matchups against two of the league’s best squads (Connecticut and New York). Now the Storm get to face the WNBA’s worst team. We also don’t have to worry about any kind of lookahead potential because Seattle faces Dallas and then LA again in their next two games.

Wednesday night presents a chance for Seattle to get right ahead of the playoffs. The Storm easily covered as favorites against the Mercury last time out €“ which is a good sign after they went 0-7 ATS in the previous seven times as favorites. Before that stretch, though, Seattle was 13-5 ATS when favored over the first three months of the season.

Finally, Los Angeles tends to underperform when the spread is below 10 points. The Sparks are just 5-14-1 ATS as single-digit underdogs or as favorites this season. Grab Seattle to cover.

WNBA Pick: Seattle Storm -9.5 (-125)

Washington Mystics at Chicago Sky (-2) €“ 161 O/U (-110/-110)

For our second WNBA pick today, let’s get some action on the Washington Mystics vs. Chicago Sky matchup. Despite their poor records, both Chicago and Washington are still alive for the eighth and final playoff spot. Wednesday night’s result could go a long way for either squad’s postseason hopes.

Chicago broke its seven-game losing streak over the weekend, winning on both Friday and Sunday. The big news for the Sky is that rookie standout Angel Reese will be out for the rest of the season due to a wrist injury. It’s a notable loss, but fellow rookie center Kamilla Cardosa is more than capable of filling the role of inside scorer. Since the Olympic break, Cardoso is averaging 12.5 PPG and shooting 62% from the field €“ up from her season-long averages of 8.1 PPG and 46%.

The Sky offense shouldn’t be hampered too much with Reese out. Chicago put up 92 points last game without her. Chennedy Carter, who recently missed time due to illness, is back and just put up 28 points in that last game. Carter is averaging 21.1 PPG since the beginning of July and is the offensive catalyst for Chicago.

On the other side, Reese’s absence will impact the Sky defensively since they are losing the league’s rebounding. Washington should have more second-chance scoring opportunities and better inside looks without Reese in the paint. The Mystics have gotten an offensive boost from Brittney Sykes, whois taking a ton of shots ever since she returned from injury in August.

Grab the Over as the Mystics and Sky could get into an under-the-radar shootout. Chicago has scored 92 points in consecutive games coming into tonight while Washington recently put 90 points in back-to-back contests.

WNBA Pick: Over 161 Total Points (-110)
