This Wednesday, the MLS All-Star Game will take place against a Liga MX side (Wednesday, July 24, 2024 with kick off at 8:00 p.m. ET / 5:00 p.m. PT.). However, it appears that the sheer amount of football is taking its toll: in addition to the absence of Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez will not feature due to physical issues.

While the Argentina forward continues to recover from an ankle injury, the Uruguayan forward is suffering from knee discomfort.

Inter Miami confirmed that both players are out of the match in Columbus, after the Charrúa striker was not match fit after the weekend’s match against Chicago Fire. As a result, the MLS XI will go into the match against the Mexican league without their main attacking stars.

Who will start in the MLS XI instead of Messi and Suárez?

The side led by Wilfried Nancy could now include Juan Camilo ‘Cucho’ Hernández, Christian Benteke and Denis Bouanga from the off. These changes will also give an opportunity to different players such as Diego Rossi, Federico Bernardeschi, Gabriel Pec and Pegar Musa; the latter two were added to cover the absences of Messi and Suárez.

As previously reported, the captain for the MLS All-Star Game will be Luciano Acosta, who will play as a playmaker ahead of the midfield line. As for the midfield, the possibility of seeing Sergio Busquets alongside Riqui Puig is there, with the two ex-Barça players included in the squad.

Through social media, MLS announced that they are already preparing for Tuesday’s skills event and Wednesday’s match. For the event, Diego Luna (Real Salt Lake) joins the roster along with Luciano Acosta, Jordi Alba, Bernardeschi, Busquets, Evander, Cucho Hernández, Riqui Puig, Marteen Paes and Roman Bürki.
